The cooking school is an addition to one of the oldest classes at Love Guatemala. The class started as just a baking and pastry class and has evolved over the years. It has given an opportunity to countless students throughout the years. Many of those students have gone on to work in restaurants, open their own businesses, or from their homes sell recipes they’ve learned.

One of the things that we always look for are chances for the students to learn new techniques from outside sources as well as our wonderful teachers. A couple months ago, we had the privilege of having guest chefs from a town on the coast, called Puerto Barrios, Izabal.

The students learned how to make a traditional dish called, Tapado. The dish is a seafood soup made with different types of seafood, coconut milk and plantains. The dish is delicious, though it is not something the people in the area around Magdalena know how to make it. So it was a great privilege having chefs who could give that knowledge to our students.

It is so wonderful seeing the cooking students grow in their abilities as chefs and bakers. Each time they learn something knew it is another thing that they are able to add to their résumés in the future. We cannot wait to see all that they will accomplish in the future after graduation!
